THE FORGOTTEN VILLAGE OF PICTON
Introducing Upper Picton (Redbank)Lying just south of the town of Picton we know to-day, Upper Picton, also known as Redbank, was the original government town of Picton laid out in 1845. The name was changed in 1847 to Upper Picton to avoid confusion with Major Antills private town on the banks of Stonequarry Creek.
This is the little known story of the disagreement and division between the towns of Upper and Lower Picton. Published to coincide with the 150 years anniversary celebrations of settlement, this well-researched book tells the tale of the government town that never happened and its people. Details many early families, residents and landholders. A fascinating tale and well indexed.
First edition published October 1995 $12-50 plus $2-50 p & p
