New National Library Website
The National Library has released a new version of its web site. The site has a new graphic design, significant changes and additions to content, improved navigation pathways and a new metadata-compliant site search engine. The Library's aim has been to reposition the site to enable the use of the web as a primary means of information service delivery for both onsite and offsite users, including both regular users and those visiting the site for the first time.

The entry points and navigation paths allow users of the site to engage with the Library in its various roles: as a cultural institution, a national library, or a working research library. The structure has been designed to encourage users to continue using the site by finding what they need within two or at most three levels from the home page.

Much of the existing content has been reviewed to ensure that it is current and appropriate. Development of content at lower levels of the site will continue over the next few months. Users of the Library's web site are welcome to provide comments on the new version which is now operational at http://www.nla.gov.au
Comments can be emailed to www@nla.gov.au

Disruptions to Database Services at National Archives of Australia
In July, the National Archives will introduce a new integrated database to replace our ANGAM II and RINSE databases. To undertake the work to bring the new database on line, it will be necessary to decommission ANGAM II, RINSE and a third database known as PCS, which we use to track the movement of records from the repository to the reading room.

From Friday 2 July to Monday 12 July, ANGAM II, RINSE and PCS will not be available. The versions of ANGAM II and RINSE on our web site will continue to be available during this period. While the databases are down, the Archives will revert to a manual system for the request, issue and return of records. During this period, our reading rooms will remain open but it may take up to three hours to deliver records you request. If you order photocopies of records during this period, there may also be delays in getting copies to you. If you intend visiting any of our reading rooms in early July, we recommend that you contact us prior to paying us a visit. To minimise delays, we suggest that you pre-order any records you would like to read in early July by 25 June. Please send details of the records you require to the relevant office. We anticipate that the new integrated database will be available on Tuesday 13 July. We are confident that the enhanced functionality of the new database will outweigh any inconvenience experienced during the changeover period.
