About Us

Ozgenie Research is the registered business name of Scott Brown and was first registered in Queensland in 1997 when preparations for the release of our first CD were being made. In late 2000 the business was moved to Victoria and has been registered there since February 2005.

Our Services

We offer services as a search agent to assist researchers who can not access Melbourne's research facilities. Collections we will search include holdings of Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) and the State Library of Victoria. Our fees are reasonable and competitive within the industry. Scott is also prepared to act as a speaker at group meetings and family history functions. He has given public talks to groups such as the Genealogical Society of Victoria (GSV), Australian Institute of Genealogical Services (AIGS), International Settlers Group and Descendants of Convicts Group.

Researcher History

The main researcher is Scott Brown. He has been a genealogical researcher since 1981 and in October 2003 qualified for the Advanced Diploma in Local, Family and Applied History from the University of New England. Scott has worked for both the National Health and Medical Research Council and the Australian Research Council. He also spent 18 months as the Assistant Graduate Studies Officer at La Trobe University. More recently Scott spent two years working for Public Record Office Victoria, half of this time as Team Leader for the Melbourne and Ballarat Public Reading Rooms. Scott's research specialty area is convicts and early colonial settlement. Scott has also taught Family History beginners classes at Sussex Neighbourhood House in Melbourne.

Publications

Australian Colonists Series Volume 1 1788-1800: This CD-Rom contains a biographical and genealogical database of the people who came to Australia between the years 1788 and 1800, their children and grandchildren. The database has almost 10,000 individual entries and gives details of almost 14,000 people. As an interim release about 50% of the entries are complete and contain details such as status on arrival (convict, military etc) Birth Death and Marriage details, conviction details land grant and other biographical material. The incomplete entries contain, as a minimum - name, ship of arrival, status on arrival, conviction details (if convict). Click here for more details
