Friendship 1788

The First Fleet transport ship Friendship.

The Friendship was built in 1784 at Scarborough and was a brig with a burthen of 278 tons. On her return voyage to England, in company with the Alexander, her crew was so badly affected by scurvy that the decision was made, on 28 October 1788, to scuttle the Friendship off the coast of Borneo. There were only sufficient able bodied crew to manage one ship so all the crew from the Friendship boarded the Alexander.
